Op-Ed Insight

Privacy

What you type stays on your device.

Your text

Every tool on Op-Ed Insight, including the editor, runs as JavaScript in your browser. Your text is counted and checked there and is never sent to this site or anyone else. The site's Content Security Policy limits the page to connecting only to this site (connect-src 'self'), and the code makes no such request with your text; you can confirm this in your browser's developer tools.

Documents you write in the editor are saved in your browser's local storage on this device, so they are still there when you come back. They are not synced or backed up anywhere. Clearing your browser's site data deletes them; export anything you want to keep. A few preferences (theme, which highlights are on) are stored the same way.

No cookies, no trackers

Op-Ed Insight sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, fonts, images, analytics or advertising. If that ever changes, for example if advertising is added, this page will say so before it happens.

Server logs

Like almost every website, the server keeps a log of page requests: the time, the page requested, the referring page, the browser's user-agent string, and a shortened network address (the last part of an IPv4 address is removed, and IPv6 addresses are cut to their first three blocks, before anything is written, so the log cannot point to one connection). The log is used only to count visits and to stop abuse, is never shared or sold, and is deleted after 30 days. The legal basis under the GDPR is legitimate interest in running and securing the site. Page requests never contain the text you type.

The hosting proxy in front of this site (measured 2026-10-26): successful requests are not logged there. Requests that fail at the proxy are recorded with the visitor's IP address and browser user-agent, with cookies and authorization headers redacted, and are currently kept until the proxy is restarted. A retention limit for those records is under review.

Your rights

Because the logs hold only shortened addresses, we cannot link a log line to a person. You can ask questions about this policy through the site operator; we will answer them.
